Take wedding inspiration from Bollywood divas! Know their designers picks for the big day.

For any bride, her wedding is the time to create ravishing stop-and-stare moments. The time to be no less than any star and flaunt exquisite glitterati jewellery over equally embellished beautiful ensembles. A perfect wedding dress adds more wonder element to the day of love, affection and togetherness. Indian wedding nuptials go no less than a minimum of three to four days consisting of different rituals and varied kind of expected attires. The once in a lifetime event undoubtedly deserves to be packed with fabulous outfits, mesmerising accessories, glamorous makeup and a lot of unforgettable happy moments with family and friends.

Here’s taking inspiration from Bollywood style icons on what to wear on your big day, which colours to choose and how to assemble all the aspects into a trendy statement:

Traditional to Trendsetting

A collection of conventional to unconventional attires, the Bollywood fashionista Sonam’s choices of hues, designs and styles at her wedding is sure to give significant fashion inspirations to all kinds of brides-to-be for years to come.  The wedding trousseau consisted of varied shades of pastel along with the authentic red, embroidery to pearl embellishments, sequins of Swarovski crystals to graphic applique and extravagant accessories complementing each of her stunning ensembles. Her designer clan included Abu Jani Sandeep KhoslaAnamika Khanna and Anuradha Vakil.

Celebratory Kundans to Flawless Florals

Sabyasachi is a top favourite when it comes to selecting an extravagant wedding trousseau. Sabyasachi exclusively curated all the dapper ensembles of Anushka Sharma and her captain husband, Virat Kohli. The fairy-tale wedding had an equally magical wedding lehenga in pale pink with renaissance embroidery which made Anushka look like a dream. From traditional banarasi silk to velvet, ravishing uncut diamond accessories to fresh Tuscan hydrangeas, her wedding experience gave a variety of elements to inspire.

Another beautiful Sabyasachi bride was Bipasha Basu who blew our minds in her authentic Bengali bride avatar. Her perfectly embellished gold zari red lehenga paired with enchanting Jaipuri Kundan ornaments impressively flaunted the rich Indian heritage. Both the brides completed their D-Day look with a statement matha-patti.

Sacred Vows in Sacred Red

The colour red holds significant value in Indian wedding rituals and is supposedly considered auspicious to wear when embarking on the new journey as a married woman. Nothing beats a traditional red lehenga with detailed work of royal motifs in gold. Even till date, most brides choose to go the conventional way opting from the palette of quintessential red and its blended shades. Ace designer Manish Malhotra who has designed numerous wedding function sequences in Bollywood movies is yet another top choice among the stunning Indian film divas for the D-day.

Indians are known to have lavish weddings spread over an extended period, but now a new trend is marked where many are opting for private ceremonies among close-knit family and friends probably followed by a reception. Same seems to be chosen by Indian cinema reigning queens, dimple-chined Preity Zinta and talented Urmila Mantodkar who stunned their fans with beautiful red Manish Malhotra ensemble on their big day.

Regal, Understated yet Exotic

Sagarika Ghagte gave a whole new definition to wedding trousseau and nailed each and every look with elan. She ditched the heavy appearance expected of a bride and opted for understated hues, elegant attires, minimalistic jewellery and simple makeup as well as hairdos yet looking resplendent in each of her function. Striking colours like sea-green from Anita Dongre Label, a dusty rose pink Faabiiana outfit, a grey-gold glitterati Falguni and Shane Peacock creation and ivory-gold Sabyasachi lehenga set new levels of classic and regal taste for brides-to-be. She even paired her attires with a different set of choker patterned elegant accessories from oxidised silver, heavy kundan, ruby to heritage Indian Rajputana style giving everyone next to next awe-inspiring moments.

Anything but cliche

Refreshing tones with diaphanous dupatta co-ordinated with sophisticated stand-out jewellery is a new found style mantra of contemporary brides. Keeping it subtle and effortless, Neha Dhupia opted for an intricately embroidered baby pink lehenga from Anita Dongre, and similarly, Aftab Shivdasani’s wife Nin Dusang adorned an ivory creation by Yoshita Couture. Brides today woo in a style which defines their personality and sensibility than the on-going fashion trends. Ditching glittery and glossy textures, women are experimenting with various kinds of fabric and wedding couture aesthetics. Sublime designs are finding an equal love and acceptance in the wedding choices of this generation.
